A New Chapter for Accessible Plant Phenotyping

Phenospex × INperfektion — INSCAN Lite

At Phenospex, our mission has always been to empower plant scientists and the crop protection industry with precise, automated data about plant performance. Deploying highly advanced plant phenotyping systems, however, can sometimes be a complex and resource-intensive endeavour for standard greenhouse and climate chamber setups.

We are announcing a new cross-border collaboration designed to change that.

Through our new joint project, INSCAN Lite, Phenospex B.V. is partnering with German automation experts INperfektion GmbH to design a highly modular, accessible, and standardised plant phenotyping solution.

The Vision: Making Plant Phenotyping as Accessible as Ever

The INSCAN Lite project aims to bridge the gap between high-end automated phenotyping and everyday research facilities. Our goal is to create a modular plant analysis system that fits easily into the vast majority of existing greenhouses and climate chambers, at a fraction of the cost of traditional, fully customised installations.

Think of it as a smart, modular assembly system: highly adaptable to a client’s specific spatial footprint, yet straightforward to integrate and run.

Phenospex — Analytical Core

Phenospex drives the project’s analytical core, integrating our PlantEye 3D light-sheet sensor technology, HortControl software suite, and a seamless user interface.

INperfektion — Automation Framework

INperfektion applies deep industrial engineering expertise to develop the physical automation framework, focusing on robust safety standards, physical modularity, and smooth mechanics.

By merging state-of-the-art optical sensors with streamlined, standardised automation, we aim to lower the entry barriers for digital plant research — helping laboratories, universities, and agtech companies globally accelerate their crop and agrochemical development.

A Cross-Border Collaboration Supported by the European Union

Innovative technology thrives on diverse, regional expertise. This Dutch-German collaboration is made possible through financial support from the European Union’s regional development initiatives.

The INSCAN Lite project is officially carried out under the STIPP (SME Transition Innovation Partner Projects) framework of the Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) programme.
